Fuel Your Flame
Where insight becomes leadership. A field note on the patterns beneath what we do, and the choices that help us grow.

The opening thought
Leadership development gets interesting beneath the surface.
The Leadership Loop: What’s Driving Your Leadership?
What if the behavior we see is only the tip of the iceberg?
Beneath the surface are the beliefs, experiences, assumptions, emotions, habits, and behavioral patterns that shape how we lead.
And that’s where leadership development gets interesting.
What’s Beneath Your Leadership?
We often try to improve leadership by focusing on what people do.
- 01Communicate better.
- 02Delegate more.
- 03Listen more.
- 04Give better feedback.
Those things matter.
But lasting change requires us to look deeper.
Questions beneath the action
- 01Why do you communicate the way you do?
- 02What happens when you’re under pressure?
- 03What assumptions influence your decisions?
- 04What patterns do you fall back on when things get difficult?
- 05What might other people experience from you that you don’t see in yourself?
That’s the space the Leadership Loop was created to explore.
The model
Introducing the Leadership Loop
The Leadership Loop is a leadership iceberg assessment designed to help you look beneath visible leadership behaviors and explore the patterns influencing them.
It isn’t about putting you in a box or giving you a label.
It’s about creating insight.
Because you can’t intentionally develop what you haven’t recognized.
The Leadership Loop helps you examine the relationship between what happens around you, what happens within you, and how you ultimately respond.
- 01Experience
- 02Interpretation
- 03Behavior
- 04Impact
- 05Reflection
- 06Growth
And the loop continues.
Pattern recognition
Your Leadership Has a Pattern
Every leader has patterns. Some serve us. Some limit us.
Some were developed through years of experience and helped us become successful.
And sometimes, those same patterns can become the things that hold us back.
That’s why leadership development isn’t simply about adding more skills to your toolbox.
Sometimes, it’s about understanding which tools you’re reaching for, why you’re reaching for them, and whether they’re still the right tools for the situation.
Your Leadership Spark
Take a moment before you move on.
Think about a leadership behavior you’ve been trying to change.
Now ask yourself:
What might be underneath it?
Not what should I do differently?
But:
What is driving what I currently do?
That question might lead somewhere much more useful.
Ready to Look Beneath the Surface?
I’ve built the Leadership Loop to help leaders begin that discovery.
It’s a starting point for greater self-awareness, more intentional leadership, and meaningful development.
Take the assessmentAfter your results
Don’t just look at them. Sit with them. Ask yourself:
- What do I recognize?
- What surprised me?
- What do I need to explore?
- What will I do differently?
Because the assessment isn’t the destination.
The insight is where the work begins.
